Kunar Operation
Eastern Afghanistan, Kunar Province. This mountainous region along the Pakistani border has long been one of the main centers of mujahideen resistance. In the gorges, villages, and on the commanding heights, they have established a network of strongpoints, supply depots, and transit bases, while weapons, ammunition, and reinforcements continue to move along the border trails. DRA garrisons and Soviet convoys on the Jalalabad-Asadabad road are constantly exposed to ambushes and harassing fire, and any attempt to secure ground beyond the major settlements is met with organized resistance. In response, the Soviet command launches the Kunar Operation. Following air and artillery strikes, a reconnaissance company is sent deep into enemy-held territory. Its mission is not merely to sweep the area, but to strike the key mujahideen strongpoints, disrupt their supply lines, and weaken the entire defensive system in the area.
